What Are Custom Mouth Guards?

Your Custom Fit Journey

Over-the-counter mouth guards provide one-size-fits-all protection that often slips, causes gagging, and fails to protect where it matters most. Our custom guards are made from high-grade dental materials, precisely shaped to your bite, and designed to last — giving you confidence whether you’re on the sports field or sleeping peacefully.

Do I Really Need a Custom Guard?

From Impression to Perfect Fit — In Just Two Visits

Bruxism — unconscious teeth grinding during sleep — affects up to 1 in 5 adults and can cause severe enamel erosion, jaw pain, cracked teeth, and even tooth loss over time. A night guard is the most effective non-invasive solution to protect your teeth while you sleep.

Types of Mouth Guards We Provide

Why Custom Beats Over-the-Counter

Sports guards are required or strongly recommended for contact sports including rugby, football, hockey, boxing, and martial arts. A well-fitted guard absorbs impact force and significantly reduces the risk of dental injury, jaw fractures, and concussion.

Adjustments

Minor adjustments can always be made at a follow-up visit to ensure perfect comfort and function.

Review

We check guard condition and your dental health at regular intervals — especially important for bruxism patients.

Night Guard

A slim, hard acrylic or soft dual-layer guard worn during sleep to prevent enamel wear from grinding.

Sports Guard

A resilient, shock-absorbing guard designed to protect teeth, lips, and jaw during contact sports.

Dual Laminate Guard

Hard outer shell with soft inner lining — ideal for heavy grinders who need both rigidity and comfort.

TMJ Guard

Specially designed to reposition the jaw and reduce strain on the temporomandibular joint during sleep.

How Your Guard Is Made

Guard Options for Every Need

Your guard is fabricated from impressions of your teeth by an in-house dental technician. The result is a precise, comfortable fit that stays in place without any adjustment — unlike boil-and-bite guards that shift and gag.

Children's Guard

Fitted guards sized for growing jaws — checked and replaced regularly as children's teeth change.

Snoring Guard

A mandibular advancement device that gently positions the jaw forward to open the airway and reduce snoring.

Standard Guard

Soft single-layer guard — comfortable and effective for mild grinding or sports protection.

Advanced Guard

Dual laminate or hard acrylic guard for heavy grinders, TMJ dysfunction, or high-impact sports.

Frequently asked questions

How is a custom mouth guard different from one bought at a pharmacy?
Custom guards are made from precise impressions of your unique bite, so they fit perfectly, stay securely in place, and provide complete coverage. Pharmacy guards are made to fit everyone, meaning they are often too bulky, uncomfortable, and slip during use — reducing both protection and compliance.
After your initial impression appointment, your custom guard is typically ready within 1–2 weeks. We’ll book a short fitting appointment to check comfort and make any final adjustments before you take it home.
Yes. We create special orthodontic mouth guards designed to fit over braces for sports protection. For night grinding, we’ll assess your situation carefully — a guard may not always be suitable during active orthodontic treatment and alternative management may be recommended.
Rinse your guard with cool water after each use and brush it with a soft toothbrush. Avoid hot water as this can warp the material. Store it in the ventilated case provided and bring it to your dental appointments so we can check its condition.
A night guard does not stop the grinding habit — it protects your teeth from the damage grinding causes. Think of it as a shield. Addressing the root cause of bruxism (commonly stress or bite issues) requires additional treatment such as stress management therapy, bite adjustment, or physiotherapy.
